WELCOME!!!!
By: Jon M. Morris
Hello! Welcome to "The FFA Adventure!!!!" , the official newsletter
of the Mississippi FFA Association. The FFA Adventure began back in
1995-96 school year. During that year there were two issues published,
which is why this issue is Volume II, Issue 1.
The state officers have
revived the FFA Adventure to provide FFA members, advisors, and Alumni
with an information source on FFA activities and members.
Inside this
issue you will find a variety of articles and special features. Each
month we will report on the various activities of the Mississippi FFA.
Also, we hope to run a variety of special features and editorials
that will be fun and informative for all people. Two of the regular
features will be "Q & A" and
"Mississippi FFA Stars". These articles
are to spotlight the amazing talents of FFA members.
First we have "Q
& A" . This month we are spotlighting our National Officer Candidate
and past State President, Christy R. Berry. Turn to page two and find
out about one of the finest members Mississippi FFA has ever seen
and find out why she wants to be a national officer.
The other regular
feature we have is "Mississippi FFA Stars". As a state officer, I
have gotten to travel around the state and meet some pretty amazing
FFA members. In the "STARS" column, we will spotlight some of the
outstanding accomplishments of the FFA members in Mississippi. Some
will be chosen, and some will be taken from nominations. If you know
any outstanding FFA members, send their name, address and chapter to
me at my address on page three, and we'll make them a Mississippi FFA
STAR!
On the behalf of the State
Officers and Staff, I hope you enjoy "The FFA Adventure!"

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!
By: Sissy Greer
The Made For Excellence Conference this year was absolutely great!
The theme this year was "Lights, Camera, ACTION!" in which FFA
members experienced there own "Oscar Night" The conference was a lot
of fun and motivating for the 115 FFA members and advisors present.
National FFA Staff who were assisted by the State FFA Officers
presented the MFE conference.
On the behalf of the state officers and
staff, I would like to thank those who attended, and extend an
invitation to all of you for next year's MFE!
"Oh, the Places You'll Go!"
By: Jason Morris
In late August, the state FFA officers began traveling all across the
state for federation meetings where FFA members were given the chance
to "Travel around the world". While traveling the globe, and visiting
the wonders of the world, FFA members learned how each place related
to their lives and experiences in FFA and how they can use the
opportunities FFA gives them to go anywhere they choose in their
lives. The state officers and I congratulate the newly elected
federation officers and wish all of you the best of luck!

Mississippi FFA STARS!
Patrick Colley
By: Cameron C.A. Surrette, State FFA Chaplain
In this issue we are going to be looking at an FFA member that is
really an unsung hero of our organization. These are the types of
members that keep the good image the FFA has in the open and for all
to see.
I'm going to be talking about a member from the north district
whose hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed. Maybe
unrewarded in the sense that some of us think, but definitely not
unnoticed.
Patrick Colley from the South Panola FFA Chapter is one of
the hardest working and most dedicated members I personally know.
He's a senior in high school and currently serving as president of his
chapter. Patrick is the son of Jeff and Linda Colley. When you think
about this remarkable young man, you don't know where to start.
Patrick worked very hard at the 1997 Chapter Officer Leadership
Conference Co-Op program. He's involved in many Career Development
Events as well including: Parliamentary Procedure, Opening and
Closing, Nursery and Landscape, Public Speaking, and Chapter Display.
Out of these events, he's placed first in the state in Parliamentary
Procedure and Opening and Closing and will be competing at the
National Convention in November.
This young man is also holding down
two SAE's. He's involved in Home and Farmstead Improvement as well as
helping his dad launch a tractor sales operation.
In the past four
years Patrick has been involved in about nine different student
organizations but credits most of his success to the FFA. He is in
the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theata, and the Math & Science
Club. The man is smart.
Upon graduation from Massachusetts
Institution of Technology with a doctrine in physics, he wants to get
a job in research and development of robotics and computer
engineering.
Patrick does have one thing to say about his life. "The
achievements of your largest goals sometimes depend on the success of
your smaller ones." Not only is Patrick a scholar, but a gentleman as
well.
