About Agribusiness in a Global Environment

Agribusiness in a Global Environment

We live in a global economy. Agriculture producers can not limit themselves to a local or even regional perspective when considering production or marketing of their products.

The purpose of the Agribusiness in a Global Environment curriculum is to acquaint junior-high and high-school students with the many opportunities for international trade of agricultural products and to make them familiar with some of the factors affecting global marketing. This curriculum is written primarily from a U.S. perspective for U.S. students, but it could easily be adapted for use worldwide. Students who are aware of agriculture in the international scene will be better prepared to maximize potential opportunities in the future.

Lesson topics were identified and approved by an Advisory Committee representing the broad spectrum of occupations affected by international agriculture, including agriscience teachers, farmers, exporters, and Federal and State Agency employees. It is hoped that this Web site will be used for formal education settings but also will provide a resource for anyone interested in improving their understanding of the role of agriculture in international business.

This project was developed at Mississippi State University through the joint efforts of Dr. Matt R. Raven and Dr. Michael E. Newman, Associate Professors of Agricultural Information Science and Education; Dr. Juan C. Batista, Professor of Management and Executive Director of the Agribusiness Institute; Dr. Laura A. Griffeth, Visiting Assistant Professor of Agricultural Information Science and Education; Rachel C. Allen, Graduate Assistant; and Celeste M. Brignac, Electronic Publications Specialist. Educational materials developed by the National Council for Agricultural Education as a special project of the National FFA Foundation through a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service.
