Agribusiness in a Global Environment Lesson 4
Lesson 4 Activity - Market Plan

Now that you're back from your trip, and you know quite a bit of information about the country, you have to decide what you're going to export that will meet a need there and make you enough money to be profitable...

  1. Come up with an idea of a product you think you could sell in that country.

  2. Decide whether people there would enjoy that product exactly the same way as it's sold here. OR... would some change in product marketing be more suitable, i.e. changes in flavor, number of servings per package, color of advertising, package type, etc. How much they would be willing to pay?
Write a paragraph describing how you will find out.

  3. Role-play the first few contacts between buyer and seller.
How will you find someone who is willing to buy your product? Do you talk by phone, email, fax, in person (where? here or there?)?
What are some of the first questions asked?

For the next lesson, you will be preparing a short oral presentation describing your marketing plan for your product, based on this information. Since exporting is such a competitive business, you should tell no one about your discoveries until you have a plan for cornering the market. Therefore, you do not even have to tell Mr. U.C. Money... YET.
